MIF - Museum of Women's Entrepreneurship

The Donna Sulis Museum constitutes a part of the Mif Museum System – Museums of Women’s Entrepreneurship, and is dedicated to honoring the 18th-century entrepreneur, Donna Francesca Sanna Sulis. This museum is housed in the former Carabinieri barracks and is a multifunctional space that not only hosts temporary exhibitions, meetings, and concerts, but also celebrates the extraordinary resourcefulness of Donna Francesca.

Donna Francesca Sulis played a key role in introducing silkworm breeding with mulberry trees in Muravera extensively. He also organized spinning and loom-weaving classes for village women, demonstrating visionary resourcefulness in an archaic region like Sardinia three centuries ago.

Her dedication and commitment led her to start a production of high-quality silk, which was sold to merchants in Piedmont and Lombardy. In addition, Donna Francesca Sanna Sulis was the inventor of an elegant female accessory known as “su cambusciu,” a bonnet adorned with brocade that was in vogue among wealthy girls of the time and an indispensable complement to some traditional Campidano costumes.
